Mariana Caplan has taught along-side the founder of Somatic Experiencing, Dr. Peter Levine, to integrate the two modalities of yoga and trauma work, and developed innovative psychology programs as a university professor. A practicing psychotherapist, yoga teacher, and celebrated author, Dr. Caplan brings her expertise and wisdom to the Phoenix area to offer an opportunity for this integrative training.

"Mariana Caplan is a pioneer . . . in articulating these deeper significances of yoga practice particularly in tandem with the important developments in clinical psychology."

-Don Hanlon Johnson, PhD, somatics professor and author of Body, Spirit and Democracy

This immersive workshop offers a theoretical and highly experiential exploration of the foundational principles and practices of somatics, trauma treatment, and neuroscience; integrated with yoga postures, breathwork, meditation, and visualization. Learning to work with embodied awareness through yoga, Somatic Experiencing®, mindfulness, and depth psychology can support the processing of difficult mind-states and emotions, heal trauma, and cultivate resilience. Participants in this training will:

  • Learn to use yoga practice to deepen your own psychological inquiry and healing

  • Discover how to bring core practices of Somatic Experiencing® into yoga practice and teaching in order to receive and offer deeper psycho-somatic benefits

  • Explore the emotional level of asana and how to utilize yoga practice to process trauma

  • Learn to use yoga practices to enhance therapeutic work with clients

  • Integrate core practices of Somatic Experiencing® including resourcing, titration, and pendulation

  • Explore the healing intersection of mindfulness and compassion practices with somatic work

  • Investigate philosophies of spiritual practice in relation to body and mind

This program is accessible for all levels; non-professionals and those new to these practices, as well as for seasoned professionals. If you are interested in learning how to work with your own emotional states in the context of yoga and movement practices; for yoga teachers interested in working more safely and effectively with students on the level of psyche; and for health professionals wishing to integrate these principles into their therapeutic work.
